Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been a wonderful start to the new term, and we've all enjoyed some winter sunshine. This week, you would have received an invitation to a 'Family Morning Tea' scheduled for next Friday, August 9. This event is organized by your School Board, and we hope many of our parents can attend. We have several new families at the school whom we would like to welcome during the morning as well. This term, we welcomed 12 new Reception students and Atrin in Year 5. A warm St Bernadette’s welcome to:
Aarvi, Imogen, Liam, Eva, Savannah, Shaan, Shyra, Atrin, Shivya, Ashwini, Waris, Olivia and Aahan.
We trust their time at St Bernadette’s will be rewarding, successful, and enjoyable.
We also welcome Francesca McMillan to our staff. Francesca has been teaching in the Year 5/6 class while Daniel Burns has been on Long Service Leave. Starting next Monday, she will begin teaching in the R/1 class, as Charlotte McCann starts her Parental Leave. We wish Charlotte and her husband, Lee, every blessing as they look forward to the birth of their little girl in a few weeks.
We hope you have all booked your meetings with teachers to discuss your child’s learning and set some goals for the remainder of the year. If you missed the cut-off time to book, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting.
Last week our year 3 and 5 parents received their child’s NAPLAN results. As a staff we were pleased with our results, as on average our students outperformed or were equal to the Catholic Education and South region average in all tests taken. Additionally, in all of the 10 tests our performance fell in the "strong" proficiency standard. This is indicative of staff who care deeply for the progress of each child, the amazing support that you, as parents provide at home and the determination and resilience of our wonderful students who strive to achieve to the best of their ability.
Together with all teaching staff, we will be carefully analysing our results to further inform our teaching and learning processes and identify students who require additional support or extension. Well done Year 3’s and 5’s!
Coming up on the term 3 calendar is one of our favourite events - Book Week. Please note the day of our assembly and parade is Thursday 22nd August, which will coincide the with opening of our Book Fair. Time to start preparing your costumes!
God bless,
Matt, Michelle and Ray
Exciting times ahead!
