Dear Parents/Carers,
This week, 32 students from Years 3-6 travelled to the SA Athletics Stadium to compete in the Catholic Primary Schools Athletics Carnival. Our school competed against a number of other Catholic schools in our section over the course of the day in a range of track and field events. The weather was temperamental throughout the day, as we had sunshine, rain and even thunderstorms! The 32 students represented the school proudly, giving their best efforts and finishing with a number of positive results. In particular, there are some significant individual and team results which must be mentioned. Firstly, on the team front, our Girls finished 2nd overall in the Girls shield, narrowly missing out on finishing in first place. Individually, we celebrated 2 Age Champion winners. Adut won the Age Champion for the Year 5 Girls, and Gunreet won the Age Champion for the Year 6 Girls. Well done Adut and Gunreet – and well done to all the athletes who represented St Bernadette’s.
As we head towards the end of the school year there are many exciting events and happenings to keep in mind, not the least of which is our Year 6 Canberra trip next week. Please check our calendar for other important dates and be alert to Schoolstream/Seesaw communications and other invitations so you don’t miss anything.
From Ray:
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed returning to St Bernadette’s after my secondment to the Catholic Education Office and Long Service Leave, during which I spent three wonderful weeks in beautiful Japan with my family. I am deeply grateful to Michelle for leading the school so capably in my absence, with outstanding support from Matt, and to all our staff for ensuring our community continued to thrive.
I am especially pleased that Michelle applied for and was successfully appointed as Principal from 2025 onwards. It’s been a privilege to witness her growth as an exceptional school leader over the past 5 years, and as I prepare to finish at the end of this year, I am confident that St Bernadette’s will continue to flourish under her leadership.
God bless,
Matt, Michelle and Ray
Flying Origami in 3A
In the classroom with Mrs. Springett, the students have created a beautiful flying origami display. The students were able to choose between 4 different origami patterns: plane, jet, butterfly, and crane. They learnt that by following a procedure, and folding the paper carefully, they can create something great! While following the instructions, students learnt to fold different angles and could see the different shapes forming. They thoroughly enjoyed the activity, wanting to do it again.
The children in Yr. 2M have been exploring special festivals celebrated by a range of religions this year. The children were amazed at the similarities and the joy experienced by each faith. There was a lot of talk about family gatherings, delicious food, rules for living, respect, tolerance and rituals. Due to the excitement of Diwali last week, our class decided to create some colourful Rangoli chalk patterns out in the yard. We were mindful of the purpose of these patterns to welcome Lakshmi the Goddess of wealth and good fortune into your household. We respectfully gave each other space to complete the artwork and tried not to step on them.
Hope you enjoy our designs. Some children just decided to draw pictures that brought them joy. Others tried to create artworks with more symmetrical dimensions.
