Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Since we last wrote, we have had another magnificent Harmony Day when we celebrated the diversity within our community, and the manner in which we embrace our many and varied cultural backgrounds. The vibrant colours of our national dress were on display, the students performed brilliantly under the guidance of Mrs Turnbull, and the culinary delights were enjoyed by all the families. Thank you so much for entering into the spirit of the day which has become such a wonderful tradition here, and does so much to unite our community.
As a school community, we have been journeying through Lent over the past 6 weeks. Last week we observed Holy Week, the final week of Lent, beginning with Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, The Last Supper on Holy Thursday and the Stations of the Cross, which retell the events leading up to the death of Jesus on Good Friday. Good Friday also marks the end the Lent and the beginning of the Easter season. We hope that, regardless of your faith background, you spent the long weekend with family and friends enjoying the wonderful weather we were blessed with. Our Year 3A class led our Easter Liturgy this week brilliantly. Well done also to all of our classes for their work in re-enacting the Stations of the Cross.
Last week, 17 athletes travelled to the SA Athletics Stadium to represent St Bernadette’s in the SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. We certainly held our own against some of our much larger neighbouring schools, with some excellent results being produced on the day. Well done to all of the students involved in the carnival. This week, we will be participating the Catholic Primary Schools Swimming Carnival. The team and individual results from this carnival will be shared at our end of term Assembly next Thursday.
A School Stream note has been put out today regarding Winter Sport. If your child/ren are interested in this, please fill out the form before the school holidays begin. Please be mindful that we do need parent volunteers to coach these teams, for without them there can be no team!
Regards and blessings,
Michelle, Matthew and Ray
On Friday the 22nd of March, St Bernadette’s came alive with colours, music, and a spirit of unity as we celebrated Harmony Day, and the diverse backgrounds that enrich our community!
We started our day on the oval with an exciting program of culture-inspired performances presented by our talented students. This was followed by a Parade where our students and families proudly wore traditional dress from their culture and marched around the oval with their country’s flag. We then enjoyed a morning tea in our courtyard, generously prepared by our school community and showcasing the culinary delights of different cultures. In the afternoon, students were grouped in their School Houses to enjoy an exciting range of Harmony Day themed activities prepared by our wonderful teachers. It was an enjoyable day for all!
We were fortunate to have Ms Louise Miller-Frost MP, Federal Member for Boothby and Ms Nadia Clancy, MP; State Member for Elder attend our morning events.
Thank to you all families who were able to attend, and for your support in preparing your child for this special day. While Harmony Day may be just one day on the calendar, its message of unity and acceptance resonates throughout the year at St Bernadette’s.
